** spoiler alert ** hmmmm.... Clay, defender in New York... accidently picks up a defendant accused of murder - defendent had been in a half way house overcoming drug use... had been clean for 115 days...and went out for his 2 hour leave, felt like killing someone, stole a gun from a cousin, and shot a man he'd known in school and accidently ran into...

Clay pushes to get documentation from the half way house... and then is approached by a 'fireman' - trouble shooter who is hired by a pharmacuecal company who had been illegally testing a drug that stops the craving for cocaine, but after the 100th day, the person kills... there are 5 others across the country who have done this... and the 'fireman' wants to hire him to negotiate settlements and to keep it out of court...

I skipped the middle... but it ends with him having had lots of money, spending lots of money, losing his girlfriend, picking up a money grubbing girlfriend, regaining his conscience, declaring bankrupcy, reuniting withhis girlfriend... and it looks like the company is going to get away with it... though they paid a lot of money... hmmmm I'm not really into stories of greed, lawyers, manipulation, etc.
