I had to read this for my Native American lit class. Overall I liked the book (though many people in my class found it "boring" and "hard to read" putting some of them to sleep).
It tells the story of a Dakota girl from shortly before her birth to her final "happy ending". It gives an easily approachable look into Dakota way of life and customs and is a good blend of the results of anthropologic research and novelistic story telling. To me it was very believable and an interesting perspective compared to my normal westward movement and prairie girl reads.
