really liked it
bookshelves: favorites-of-yesteryear, with-reviews

One more for nostalgia! (Goodreads/the internet is going to think I'm a 12 year old girl, because those are the only books I've been reviewing, but whatever...)

Before Robin McKinley, and before even Mercedes Lackey, there was Tamora Pierce (not in chronology of the authors themselves, but in the order of my discovering them).

This was another one of those series that I read over, and over, and over again. I was about the same age as Alana in the first book (10 or so), and I just loved it!

Alana--going undercover as her twin brother, to become a KNIGHT! Falling in love with Prince Jonathan (at least for a couple of books)--growing up, saving the world, killing the evil uncle. What more could 10 year old me ask for?

[Side note--I actually personally liked the Immortals quartet better--although it should be noted that in retrospect, I find the relationship between Daine (then 14 or 15) and her mentor (what, like 30?) a little bit creepy--although at the time it was so romantic !]
