My BFF thinks this book is boring ... but I disagree. I really love it. All of the little islands they visit hold an amazing story. I just can't believe the movie wrecked this beautiful adventure so!

I have never watched the movies. I don't think they really did Narnia justice. Actually, I don't think ANY movie could ever do justice to the Narnia of my imagination; so maybe I'm just picky ;-)

I really hope they don't try to make a movie of The Silver Chair . . . I don't think I could stand that. It's my favorite and NOBODY MUST TOUCH IT EVER. (Ahem.)

They probably will. *glares*

Ugh.

It's really hard to make a good movie about something so ephemeral and dream-like. My opinion, anyway . . . I just don't think they should try to film the Narnia stories.
Ahh! I love these books, they are not boring. ;D The movies weren't too bad- but I'd be fine with them redoing them, maybe with a 'bigger budget' to where Narnia kinda becomes more.... muchy. :P
I heartily agree with your review, Kellyn! The books are all amazing, but not so much the movies. The first movie was alright, but the other two....ugh. *shudders*
*is probably the only person on Goodreads who actually likes all the movies* *coughs awkwardly* But hey, I love the books, too. ;)
Mary wrote: "*is probably the only person on Goodreads who actually likes all the movies* *coughs awkwardly* But hey, I love the books, too. ;)"I liked all the movies too Mary! *highfives* I just don't really associate them with the book. Prince Caspian was a really cool medieval fantasy and Dawn Treader was cool. Like I said, I usually just separate them in my mind from the books. They each have their own place. :)
I loved all of the movies as well!! But I still haven't read Dawn Treader yet...does it change the story from the book or something?
Elaina wrote: "I loved all of the movies as well!! But I still haven't read Dawn Treader yet...does it change the story from the book or something?"Yes Elaina. The story is wildly different, though, not as different as Prince Caspian.

YAY!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one. XD Yeah, that makes sense. I love both the books and movies, for different reasons. The movies actually introduced me to the world of Narnia so I guess I am a little partial to them. ^_^
Elaina wrote: "I loved all of the movies as well!! But I still haven't read Dawn Treader yet...does it change the story from the book or something?"Sweet! *high fives* Ooh, VDT is one of my favorite Narnia books! It is a lot different than the movie--but I still think the movie is good. :)
I actually just watched Prince Caspian with a friend today haha For some reason, the ending always makes me want to cry :P And I read the book not too long ago...I can see the differences, but I still really liked the movie a lot :D

That is good to know! ^_^ Thanks, Mary! I might just have to bump VDT up in my to-read list :D
Elaina wrote: "I actually just watched Prince Caspian with a friend today haha For some reason, the ending always makes me want to cry :P And I read the book not too long ago...I can see the differences, but I st..."Ikr? The ending is kind of bittersweet in a way. I always want to cry when I hear "The Call" starting to play. XD Yep, it's definitely different than the book (which is actually my least favorite Narnia book), but I really like it!

No problem! You should definitely read it! It's really good. :D

Your right, I think that the song is what makes me kind of sad XD I have wanted to learn it on the piano before, because I think it would be kind of pretty as an instrumental :D

And yes! I love The Call too! Such a pretty song and the vocals. . . gives me chills!
Yeah, the end of Prince Caspian (the movie) makes me want to cry, too. To me, Prince Caspian kinda contains a Narnia-ish ness ... but The Voyage of the Dawn Treader totally lost it. But, of course, I could just be saying that because the misty weird thing disturbed me ...
Re the movies: They announced earlier this year that they're rebooting the franchise with The Silver Chair and have started pre-production. I really need to do a marathon of the books. I once read up to The Silver Chair but then got sidetracked and never read it or the last one. And...er...I liked all three movies. The third was definitely the weakest, but still...I didn't hate it. *hides from the flying tomatoes*

And @E.F.B. Really?!? I've been wanting them to make another Chronicles of Narnia movie for foreeever! :P haha

Same! I like all three of the movies, even though VDT is my least favorite of the bunch. :)
(And yessss, I've been waiting for more Narnia movies for ages. Hopefully they do a good job on it!)
I feel the same way as Kellyn about the VDT movie, and I love the book. For anyone interested in updates on the Silver Chair movie (whether from delighted or horrified anticipation), NarniaWeb.com is the best source, and they have all the latest news. (Apparently I haven't ventured there since a year ago, but i just checked, and there are more updates recently.)
The books are amazing and the first movie is perfect in my eyes, it's just SO AMAZING. I love it. A lot. ;)Prince Caspian was OK, they did get a lot of it wrong but what they did right they did RIGHT. And VotDT...just....no. XD
Narniafans was my main lurk back in the day. I didn't know much about fandoms, much less fan sites back then, so once I found one I stuck with it. Doesn't look like they've been overly focused on the movie news since they reported the preproduction of TSC back in December, though, so NarniaWeb is now in my bookmarks. :)Gosh, has it really been 11 years since the last movie??? I was only 13 or 14! 0.o
Wow, Kellyn, I can't believe your BFF thinks this is boring. A bit creepy in places, yes. But boring? I think the only CoN book that came anywhere close to boring was The Horse and His Boy. (But I liked that one, too, just so you know.)
'sputters' Horse and His Boy, boring???DOG PILE HIM!!!!
Hehee - jk.
I loved the Voyage of the Dawn Treader! I always had the most difficult time picking my favorite Narnia book (escape for Magician's Nephew, that was at the bottom of the list)...but VOTD was always in the running for the top three, along with The Silver Chair and the Last Battle...
Hey, I said I liked it, didn't I? :-) It's been years since I've read it, but recall thinking some parts were a bit slow, compared to the other books. I actually don't think I'd read The Magician's Nephew again. That was my least favorite, and IMO, not really even a proper "Narnia" book. Magic in fantasy worlds is one thing (and I'm not even 100% comfortable with that) but bringing it into this world sort of crosses a line for me.
'laughing' I was kidding, I was kidding! :) I guess I would say Prince Caspian was the slowest book - but 'slow' for C.S. Lewis was still so wonderful!
I just didn't like how dark The Magician's Nephew was . . . I'm not comfortable with a lot of magic either (unless it's within some perimeters, like an allegory or fairy tale . . . even then . . . )
But The Magician's Nephew was just too dark for me, there were some interesting allegories in it though, I think now that I'm older (looks around for cane), I would get more out of the allegories . . . a lot of spiritual warfare packed into that one, I think.
*whispers* The Magician's Nephew will always and forever be my favorite Narnia book...I just love it. <3 *ducks away*
Mary wrote: "*whispers* The Magician's Nephew will always and forever be my favorite Narnia book...I just love it. <3 *ducks away*"No need to duck! If everybody had the same tastes, life would be boring. :-)

Yep, that is true! Glad you all are so understanding. :)

I agree with Zach - for instance, if everybody liked satire instead of slapstick...life would be 'cough' . . . boring. 'smiles angelically' And I suppose . . . 'cough' . . . you could flip that statement around . . .
Magician's Nephew did have seem parts that I really enjoyed - like the Creation scenes...those were marvelous.

I admittedly like satire a lot better than slapstick. *cough* ;)
Yessss, the Creation scenes were my favorite part! ^_^

What??? 'wails' But that Jelly Belly thing you did was more like slapstick, Mary! A-HA! Got you there! :)
Yes - those scenes - so joyous! C.S. Lewis did such an amazing job catching the joy and purity and innocence of those scenes.

Was it? I thought slapstick involved more of people hurting themselves...like stubbing their toe or banging their head on something. XD
I totally agree! ^_^
Hmm...I guess, that's the 'proper' definition of slapstick...But two sisters spitting Dead Fish flavored jelly bellies into plastic bags seems kind of like slapstick to me! :) <3
Allison wrote: "Hmm...I guess, that's the 'proper' definition of slapstick...But two sisters spitting Dead Fish flavored jelly bellies into plastic bags seems kind of like slapstick to me! :) <3"
Yeah, I think Mary's right. Classic slapstick would be something like The Three Stooges (which is why I was so surprised you weren't into that).
Dead Fish flavored jelly bellies?! Auugghhhh!!! I think that would be in its own category of humor: "Videos you should never watch before a meal"! :-)
