4 1/2 stars. Emerson Cole thinks she is crazy. And to be honest, there are those pesky apparitions from the past that keep popping up. Emerson can not quite convince herself that they are ghosts. Neither can her guardian and brother, Thomas. They have tried everything. In desperation, Thomas turns to the mysterious Hourglass group and Michael, their young representative. What Michael has to tell Emerson is somewhat helpful. These apparitions are not ghosts, they are time ripples from the past. Well, that makes sense but now Michael want Emerson to go with him on a dangerous mission to the past to save someone from death.

This book was really good. The writing is very good and I really liked the characters. There is humor and teenage angst (but not too much). There are real human issues of loss and regret. There are family ties and friendship. But the most interesting part is the theory of time travel and the mind-bending revelations at the end of the book. This is a young adult book, but it is one that adults can enjoy too.
