it was amazing

Another great Leopard series book from Feehan! This is the fifth in the series and can easily be read as a stand alone. Feehan's characters come alive for the reader and I could almost feel the humidity of the swamp while reading. I couldn't put it down and read it in an afternoon.

Saria, photographer and swamp guide, has the Louisiana swamp in her blood. Her five brothers are shape shifting leopards; she'd caught them shifting in the middle of the night in the swamp when she was 10. She is 16 years younger than her oldest brother and 10 years younger than her youngest brother. Her mother died shortly after she was born and her father mostly withdrew from the world drank himself to death while she was still a youth. So she basically raised herself while her brothers were off in the military and her father sat alone in his misery. But she loved her childhood in the swamps. Later, when given a camera by a teacher as a bribe to keep coming to school, she fell in love with photography. She grew into a strong, self-sufficient, self confident young woman. She is just sad that she isn't a leopard as well so she would have something in common with her brothers.

People are being killed in the swamp and Saria is very afraid it is one of her brothers. She's threatened when she tries to get help. One night after enlisting the help of the local priest, she is attacked by a shapeshifting leopard on her way home. She feels something come alive inside her and come to her aid but later dismisses it. Could one of her own brothers attack her?

Drake is a leopard shifter who leads teams of shifting leopards who go on assignments to rescue, right wrongs, take care of rogue shifters, etc. He's come at the request of a partner who received a letter detailing the killings. The minute he steps off the dock, he smells her and his cat goes wild. When he meets his guide, Saria, he is hard pressed to keep his cat in check. His cat knows they've met their mate.

Drake quickly figures out Saria is the one who sent the letter. He is shocked at what he finds in the swamp and finds himself in a confrontation and Saria in serious danger.

There are several subplots going on in the story and even though I figured it out in advance, it has a nice twist. Paranormal romance and shifter fans will love this book.

Warning Spoiler Alert!!!
This has an HEA ending.
