it was amazing

Fairyland is a gorgeous and moving account of the life and love between a daughter and her beloved, single gay father in 1970s and 1980s San Francisco. They were, as the author states, imperfect at times. But there is no doubt of the bond between them and by the final pages, I openly wept.

"Those who hadn't lived through the epidemic would come to know almost nothing of it, as a cultural amnesia set in. The heavy warlike losses of the AIDS years were relegated to queer studies classrooms, taught as gay history and not American history."

What a gift the author has given in sharing her story so that we don't forget the lives lost during this tragic period in our country's history.
