it was amazing

An extraordinary book with profound spiritual insight which most reviewers fail to see. The story is structured around tales from the Buddha's life which determine the animals the artist chooses to paint. However, the intense meditation and insight which the artist achieves as he meditates on Buddha's life is the true heart of this story. After living so intensely with the Buddha while painting, the artist makes a sacrifice worthy of the Buddha: he gives up his own hope of success and fame to bring joy to the cat. In so doing, he achieves the Buddhist ideal of infinite compassion and is rewarded with a miracle.

A superlative book; children will like it, but it takes adult years to truly understand what the writer is saying.
