it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy, gothic, world-war-i

It's a delight to reread Arthur Machen. One can admire his craft, his passion for the otherworldly and for nature. It's even more of a pleasure to read his stories for the first time. I've read some of these before, over the years, and relished the chance to immerse myself in tales of beauty and the supernatural.

Bryan Alexander I've read some or all of these at different points in my life, but can't remember 'em all. So thanks to my friend Steven for getting me back in the Machen zone.
Already the trees look beguiling, and the city calls out for a walk...

Bryan Alexander Quick note: the cover is wrong, and I wonder if it was either intended for a different edition, or is a joke. See, "The Great God Pan" isn't in this collection.

message 3: by Steven (new)

Steven I dearly love the title story.

Bryan Alexander Which is perfect.
