Again while I love the premise of the 'Dashing Widows' this book fell a bit flat for me. And this time I know it's not the Courtney Milan fact as I haven't read any of her other work recently. I just... found this a bit flat. It didn't seem believable - the things the story wanted me to take on are all fine and well, but when it came to really selling it so I'd believe it, I didn't It was too rushed, the resolution too neat. Also there are some consent issues in here that I'm giving the side-eye, because even though they seem tiny, these things make a big difference. Poorly handled consent throws me out of stories like this so easily and it really damages my reading experience.

So, while I loved Fenella, I didn't really get much of a sense of Anthony - he was quite a cardboard cut out, as were the children and pretty much every other character - including the other widows. I'm sad about this. And... I enjoyed the book overall, mostly, but it was definitely a qualified enjoyment. I'll continue with this series for the moment but I'm not tempted to read anything further by the author.
