A worthwhile, if fairly predictable, read. Story of a high school senior in a conservative Christian town in Texas. Paul has a girlfriend, good friends, good bible study group - but his world is turned upside down when an openly gay student Manuel arrives at school. Useful depiction of what a teen boy might struggle with as he comes to terms with his sexuality. I found the characters a little cardboard, and I correctly predicted the entire plot after just 50 pages, but there is real value to this book. Anyone who has had an argument with a conservative Christian about gay rights should read this book. Sanchez thoughtfully explores every bible passage that is typically invoked by the anti-gay elements of our society, and his insights into the true nature of Christ's love are quite welcome.
