To check out my reviews:

The book that inspired the all-time classic that won the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature and whoop Disney in the butt. A film that has made countless sequels and spinoffs and you would think that the book provided enough material to make a feature animated film but you want to know the honest truth... the movie was better than the book!!!!!

I found this book to be bland, the illustrations to be weak, and not much of plot. I have to congratulate Steven Spielberg for having that magnificent vision to look past the book and help create a fantasy world that both is humorous and entertaining. We meet Shrek who is this awful smelly ogre. In this book we discover that he has parents that are awful and provide a wonderful life until he is an adult and wants to pursue his own journey.

Shrek later meets a witch who tells him of his destiny that he will meet a talking donkey who will escort him to fight off a knight and end up following a quest to meet a princess who is even uglier than him. Shrek cannot believe this nonsense but nonetheless the prophecy comes true. The movie has a similar plot but I love the idea that Fiona who doesn't have a name in the book was a beautiful princess who suffered from a terrible curse instead of this hideous monster who was born that way.

Would I highly recommend people to read this book? HELL TO THE NO!

Even if you worship the Shrek movies I believe this book will not enhance your experience with Shrek and instead may make you become outrage that this book is nothing compared to the movie. It is crazy how time flies by, I remember vividly going to the theaters to see Shrek and absolutely loved the first movie and then for some apparent reason I hated the sequel as a child until finally I marathon the entire series to see the final film.

I believe the Shrek films were spectacular until the 3rd movie. I believe they should have taken their time and figure out better stories to tell on screen instead of riding the high of making millions to the bank without any care about owing the fans and viewers a phenomenal series. I hope in the future if they ever decide to make another Shrek film that they forget the sequels and make the next one action pack and bring back the love I had for the first film. Thank God I got this book from the library.
