really liked it
bookshelves: kindle, library-loan

I was on the wait list a long time at my library for this book. I was getting close to getting it, and then my library switched digital systems, but luckily, I was #2 or #3 on the list for it. I had to use Tim's Kindle fire to read it, long story. The book itself was very long (for me, my limit is around 400 or so pages usually), and I was initially worried about finishing it in time. I was wrong. The story picked up speed, and mostly, I adapted to his style of writing. I found it hard to put down after a certain point. The writing is very...lyrical, stylized, poetic, I'm not sure how to describe it. It didn't end the way I would have liked, but I think that's part of the story. I would recommend it to others, along with The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, also a WWII book I read and enjoyed last year.
