I despised the father in this novel. He's a successful surgeon and his wife gave up her professorship to raise their two kids and keep house. When he comes home from work she tells him about school, the other mothers the kids and he in turn tells her that she gossips too much, is too involved in the children's social life and that she "nags" him. At work he is falling in "love" with the single mother of a young burn victim he is treating. He shuns his family to hang out with her and her child which eventually turns into a physical and emotional relationship. Meanwhile the wife at home cannot fathom her husband cheating on her, he loves her so much right? Ugh.
