Why We Can't Wait

Why should a non-religious, white woman, who was born many years after Martin Luther King's assassination in an ethnically homogenous European country, read a book that deals with the Birmingham campaign in 1963? The reason is simple: Why We Can't Wait deals with universal themes of justice, morality, and freedom, and as such, it can be easily taken out of its historical context. You might have never experienced the oppression of the 'Negro' community in the South, and you might not share MLK's religious views, but his views on nonviolence and revolution are as valid today as they were in the 1960s.
