This is the 3rd Haruki Murakami book that I have read. I am surprised that I like his writing because his books are filled with oddball characters and bizarre -- often unreal -- events. But I am always fascinated to see which way he'll turn the story next. And he keeps the story moving with an edge of suspense. In the notes on this book, his works are described as "other-worldly, philosophical, metaphysical." Another interesting aspect of his work is that although his characters are Japanese and live in Japan, his references are mainly English/American -- giving a feeling of crossing cultural worlds as well.
