I don't normally read much in young adult lit. I don't really like soccer. And yet, I found this such an original story and a really compelling read. A journalist sits down to interview World Cup goalie El Gato. El Gato grew up dirt poor in the middle of nowhere. He tells this bizarre story of being mentored by a man in the rain forest. Is he a ghost? It's a fascinating tale. And you don't have to even like soccer to appreciate it.
