Roald Dahl's exaggerated imaginative fiction glistens in this classic masterpiece. It is short enough to work well as a read-aloud book in 3rd-5th grades.

Not to take anything away from my very high opinion of this book...The 1996 movie version is one of the only examples I can think of where the movie was even better than the book. The movie couldn't quite capture Roald Dahl's delightful exaggerated text, but it did improve on the book in its' way of developing Matilda's 'powers', the invention of the 'speedboat salesmen', and the adoption papers. As for casting in the movie, I felt it was absolutely perfect. Given how well the Matilda movie came out, I can't understand how the movie version of James and the Giant Peach could have turned out SO bad.
