Right from the start I was prepared to not like Alina. She came off as cold and aloof. Not what I wanted for my dear Manny/Roan. But then when I read what this character suffered, I understood and my feelings for her definitely warmed up. I really liked the effort put into character development for both Alina and Roan. Shoot, I got to see parts of Roan that I was longing for and that explained more about what made him... him. And gave insight into the deterioration of his relationship with his brother Royal.
OMG! The entire book I was screaming "SOMEONE HURRY THE FREAK UP AND KILL ROYAL!!" I don't know how this f*cker was able to survive so long. He openly declared war on two mobs! Every crook in NY is gunning for your ass. You're a heroin addict. How the heck were you able to elude everyone?! Dude must have been an idiot savant junkie. My only complaint was that his death was too quick. Sweet but over too soon.
I liked getting a glimpse of both Aidan/Beamer and Deidre's minds through their povs. Makes for a great lead-in to their book. I'm sure based on the end of this one that Aidan has a lot of explaining and grovelling to do.
Overall a good book. The pacing was good. The language was great. The suspense was on point. The sex scenes were delicious (Roan is quite the dirty talker). I liked seeing Cain and Calla in this book as well. I'm also wondering if there is a book for Roan's cousin Dilan in the future.
The one thing I would fix would be breaking up the chapters a bit better. There were instances where time would pass within a chapter but there was no break from one paragraph to the next. You know how some books will have some squiggles to indicate a separate scene? This book didn't have that. I'm sure it was just some editing error and it really didn't take away from my reading experience.
Anyway, enjoy!
