What can I say? I thought this book was adorable. I'm not sure why I think that amidst the drama, murder and mayhem, but that's the descriptor that came to my mind.
There was cheating. Sorry for spoiling it for those of you who didn't know. However, there were circumstances behind the cheating that make it a bit more... palatable. I'm lying. The reasons made me hate Cain less, but I think there were other ways to get the point across. Then again, he was 18yo at the time. His faculties may not have been fully developed.
By the end of the book, I definitely loved Cain and actually pretty early on I was convinced of his love for Calla. Shoot, who wouldn't be convinced after reading about his house. Or his tattoo???
As for Calla, I liked her from the beginning. Add the fact that she went to my alma mater U of W and I felt an immediate connection. She was brash, intelligent, witty, spunky, strong, beautiful, caring, etc. I loved her interactions with all of the characters, especially Cain, but also how she was with her parents and Manny.
Oh man. Manny/Roan is the subject of the next book and I'm really interested in reading about him. Although I would have liked to read more about Cain and Calla, maybe I'll get to see them in book 2.
Enjoy!
