This is absolutely one of the best books I have ever read! It exemplifies perseverance, hope, the importance of family, friendship, and doing the best in the worst of circumstances. Difficult read (content) and amazingly inspirational. Also breeds compassion for the suffering, then and now, of our fellow man.
