Fascinating! In a city populated with heroes and villains, a regular guy falls in love with a villain. If you're in love with Loki (and honestly, who isn't right?) you're going to love this book. The context is way different, but the feeling is exactly the same.

The world-building here is lightning fast and we get a very good sense of the moral gray area this city inhabits right away. This is not a place of black and white or good and evil, no matter how much some people in the narrative would like to believe that it is. This first book is also pretty clearly allegorical, taking aim at the idea that gun ownership by regular citizens provides protection, the use of GMOs for making food cheap and how corporations manipulate governmental operations. It will be interesting to see if that tone continues through the next two books.

The only thing I wished for was a little more detail. The couple goes on dates and falls in love pretty much off-page, but their affection for each other is clear. It didn't alter my enjoyment of the story. It just made me wish there was more. And there is! Because there's a second book featuring the same characters. Yay!
