This is the eleventh installment of Alexander McCall Smith's wonderful No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. As with previous volumes, there is always a professional case and a personal crisis, to both of which Precious Ramotswe applies her practical wisdom. In this book, the agency is hired to track down an employee of a safari outfit to receive a small legacy from a grateful former guest, and Mma Makutsi’s wedding plans are being thwarted by her fiancé’s controlling aunt.

I love this series so much! The mystery is never very difficult or traumatic, and everything always works out neatly in the end. In fact, it’s less a “mystery” series than a study in human nature. The author spent some time in Botswana, so the setting and the descriptions of the culture are authentic. The characters are also very appealing.

If you prefer hard-nosed detective fiction, this is not the series for you. But if you like sitting down with a comfortable book and visiting a place that feels like home with people who feel like friends, you’ll enjoy Mma Ramotse and her No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.
