I'm not sure I have ever read a book where desire and frustration were so well written into the text. Spencer did such a tremendous job in character development that I literally felt emotionally in synch with the ups and downs of each character's joy and guilt. Everything about this novel was great except for the plot. Hm. Something was missing here. The novel builds and builds in anticipation, with such believable stories that the novel could be a biography of someone's life. Then, the ending happens. And it seems a little ridiculous to me.
