When I learned that I won the ARC of The Ranger, I only knew a couple of things about it. One, it’s by an author I have not read before - I enjoy trying new authors. Two, I knew it was a thriller – I enjoy thrillers. All good.

It took me a couple of chapters to get Mr. Atkins rhythm, but once I did, I couldn’t put the book down! It’s an action packed story that managed to keep me on the edge of my seat. Quinn Colson is an Army Ranger on leave to attend the funeral of his uncle, the local sheriff. While home, he finds that his uncle’s death may not be a suicide as originally reported. In fact, there are a lot of things that aren’t what they seem to be. Corruption and drugs are rampant. Most of the bad guys are easy to figure out. Most. I missed at least one. And what a surprise that was! The dialogue is gritty and real. The violence is very believable. I liked this story and look forward to the next installment of Quinn Colson. I would, and have, recommended The Ranger.
