I had a hard time at first getting used to this author's style of writing, but I ended up liking the story very much. What I enjoyed was the old fashioned feel of it. Clearly this is set in a time when childhood was more carefree. Birdsall did a great job in describing the setting in such a way that the different circumstances throughout the book were vivid and very imaginable. A fun, light-hearted read.
