Another good historical narrative from McCullough. 1776 is an entertaining, thoroughly researched, and easily digested account of one year in the American Revolution. The book is laser focused on the military aspects of the war and herein lies my criticism. While Washington as an army commander presents a a heroic figure, McCullough barely touches the political and personal sides of our first president nor does he give the reader much in the way of the social and political aspects of the conflict at all. 1776 works well for what it is but if you're looking for a more comprehensive view of this period there are better books at your disposal.
