really liked it
bookshelves: picture-books

The rhyming text featured in this book conveys a sense of what jazz was, who jazz was and what jazz meant to its original audiences. The illustrations, both of the prominent musicians, and of the audience, have a feel of rhythm and movement. The main text is short, but there is background information on each of the artists in the back of the book, as well as information and music samples on the accompanying CD. A good stand-alone introduction to jazz or a fine accompaniment to Myers' Jazz, or Winter's Dizzy.
