it was amazing

Just as excellent as I expected. I watched the first season of the show before I read this, so it was nice to be able to picture the character and easier to keep them straight than it would have been if I had read it with no prior knowledge of the series.

This has all the excitement of the Lord of the Rings trilogy without the endless pages of scenery description, which is nice. Also, it's great to see some really strong female characters in an epic fantasy novel. Plenty of action, sex, magic, and even a touch of romance. And awesome, awesome women. Really, I can't say enough about Dany, Arya, and Catelyn (though I'm not a huge fan of the latter, I appreciate her position). And the men are wonderfully devious and strong. Tyrion Lannister ("The Imp") has absolutely the most interesting chapters (so witty!), but Daenerys (Dany) stole my heart. I'm just sad that there's no chapter from Khal Drogo's point of view; I feel like it would have been sentence fragments and grunting, but entertaining.

I couldn't put this book down, and now I'm dying to read the rest of them. I just have to wait for my library hold to come through...
