really liked it

This isn't a perfect novel, but it's pretty close. I don't think anything would have been lost by giving it a bit more structure, I felt that it was a tad too openly manipulative in parts, and I didn't love the chapter toward the end that was in Bird's POV--just thought it was a little late in the narrative for an aside that didn't amount to much. This book compares pretty well to Lorrie Moore's "A Gate at the Stairs"--I thought there was more good writing in Moore's book, but I thought Krauss's book was better as a whole package. I really admired the plotting in this book, how it managed to feel totally new, but I was hoping that it would add up to just a little bit more, although its hard to say exactly what. Overall, I found the end to be satisfying, and I found the book to be greater than the sum of its parts (some of which were really good).
