I really liked Vreeland's Passion of Artemisia, and I enjoyed her other books (but not to the extent of Artemisia). I had great expectations for this one given the subject, and I did like the plot, but I found the story dragged and the characters bored me a bit. I feel awful saying that because the book explores some great issues - women and art and expected roles and love and society. I wish I could give the book 2.5 stars. I like historical fiction so maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this book when I read it. It wasn't a bad book; it was good, but I guess I just wanted it to be great.
