1. I loved that this was an African-American historical romance set near Boston during the very earliest days of the Revolution--I've been wanting to read more hist. fic. featuring people of color.
2. Loved learning about the roles free blacks played in the early days of the Revolution.
3. I liked Nick and Faith.

That being said, I know there's a lot of exposition in hist. fic. in general, but there was a lot of info-dumping going on here. I liked the romance and the history, but felt that sometimes the romance was put on hold for a few paragraphs while something was explained. The whole Lexington and Concord section, for example, could have been much more vividly done through Nick's eyes instead of a couple of pages of facts that I could read in a history book. The dialogue felt stilted sometimes and I felt like I was told a lot of things instead of being shown---but that's a problem I've noticed I have with a lot of romances and not just this specific one.
