Though Diane Ackerman is a terrific science writer, she tackles a different subject in this book, and it comes off as interesting, but difficult to stay with. It was sometimes difficult to keep track of the timeline and all the various characters.
If you are interested in WW II, the history of Poland, or what people did to help save Jews, it is worth the read. Otherwise, ....
