Nobody understands human emotion, it seems, as well as Dostoyevsky. He absolutely lasers in and creates characters that are so multi-faceted, and yet each action is completely true to their form.

Also, he tackles the big questions about religion and our place in the world so well. It's infrequent that writers today will try and answer the questions of humanity, but he does and does it well.
