My friend, Vicki Righettini, is the author of this wonderful book, and I'm so proud of her. Her thorough research into the aspects of travel on the Oregon Trail in the 1860s translated into an engaging and thoughtful read. Reading the story of Emily, who embarks on an extremely difficult westward journey from Illinois to Oregon with her scoundrel of a husband, was difficult to put down. Her strength and determination see her through incredible difficulties and disappointments, yet her patience and efforts for survival ultimately provide her with peace.
