The Giver is a story about a Utopian society in which one man bears all of the weight, pain, sorrow, joy, and any extreme deviance from "normal" so that the society can remain somewhat perfect. This man is getting older and older and therefore a new "Giver" must be found in the society. Yet this occupation is extremely special and cannot simply be assigned to children there must also be signs that a child has qualities that the giver has. This book is extremely creative and caused me a lot of thinking as it set up an idealistic society and all the complexities that his imagination brought on with this society. All together I definitely recommend this book as it is not very difficult of content but extremely intriguing.
