** spoiler alert ** At first, I kind of liked this book because it was being told at a steady tempo and the narrator was off in her own world. But as the book the went on, Ronnie started acting like a b***h after the little girl died. She was pushing everyone away. After that, the book kind of went on a rollercoaster of events from the murder case to being top priority to forgetting about it all together. Then she realised her friend was stealing from her for money for meth and found out the dealer was Keith, yet she STILL liked him. That made me mad. By the time she went exploring on the other side of the river and found the motor home and realised Keith was the bad guy and Petunia belonged to him, the book really got good. After Putunia was shot, I got mad because even though Veronica was in a weird situation, she still didn't even really slow down to see if Petunia was atleast okay. But it was an intense ending. I went from thinking this book was okay, to thinking maybe it deserved a little better, to thinking maybe 4 stars, but I didn't like it that much very long so I just stayed with 3 stars.

Hoa Nguyen I find it inconsistent that Mary Jane Beaufrand characterized Ronnie as such a person who is so caring for her friends that she even went the extra mile to solve Karen's death alone in the gruesome wooded river bank and yet she didn't even bother to find out about that poor dog's (Petunia) condition when it got shot right there in front of her! ugh.. how inconsistent! aside from this "mistake", I thought the book was overall ok too. I would give it a 3 star as well.
