The 3rd book in the series by S.M. Stirling. On March 17, 1998, a major electrical disturbance that originated in Nantucket knocks the entire world into the Bronze Age. This series covers a few groups of people and how they deal with no electricity or high-density technology.
The Bearkillers, a group of several hundred that started with Mike Havel, an ex-Marine that was flying the Larssen family from Boise, ID to their ranch in Montana, crash landed in the Idaho wilderness and made their way back to their ranch in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
The Clan Mackenzie, led by songstress & Wiccan Priestess Juniper Mackenzie, have settled in the mountains east of Corvallis, and are helping other villages & settlements south of Portland.
In Portland, historian Norman Arminger has taken the task of ruling the Portland Protective Association, and has set castles in the Columbia Gorge and tends to rule in tyranny & fear.
Arminger's daughter and Juniper's son become friends while she gets captured by the Clan Mackenzie and spends a few years in Clan Mackenzie.
