This book was a lot of fun. Aliens, star drives, millennia old plots coming to light. Protagonists with complex back-stories. Villains both human and alien who are both scary and believable.

I went through a Neal Asher phase last fall, where I read all 12 of the Polity books, I find this work reminiscent. Or is that just because it's modern SF and good?
