Holy crap!! Almost from the beginning I get my fix. Vishous pierced his tongue because Doc Jane asked him to. Could this male get any freaking hotter?! Rhage was upstaged by Lassiter because c'mon that angel is a riot!! I could totally see him doing a Magic Mike. Yummmmmy. With V stating "Never thought I'd pray for blindness" lmao!!
Rhage's quote "My lord and ruler, Wrath, son of Wrath, blooded father of Wrath, I present you with Throe, Piece of Shit."
Goodness, the scene from when Trez finds Selena in the Sanctuary completely seized up was heart breaking. When they're in the clinic and he mists himself into her body? That's that paranormal love right thur. This shadow man was awesome. The way he was bonded to her was compelling, and although I knew they weren't getting a HEA (nothing spelled that out better than her imminent death), I still rooted for them all the way. Trez told her "No expiration date... We live each night as if we have a thousand of them ahead."
I was grateful for Trez's flashbacks. It was good to see how he got out of the s'Hisbe compound in the first place and how he came upon Rehvenge. These two, along with iAm, have always had a strong bond and this was evident since Lover Avenged. There is nothing these men won't do for each other and that is a beautiful thing indeed
Everything about iAm being at the s'Hisbe compound was a blast though. I loved the beginning of a connection between him and the 'maid'. I already knew she was more than meets the eye and I couldn't be happier for them.
I got confused in the scene where Rhage is contemplating Selena's impending demise. He was unfortunately suffering survivor's guilt because he and Mary were spared but Trez and Selena weren't. The quote went "If deaths came in threes... Who was going to be the third one?" Reason for my confusion??? Jane is dead bro. She's a damn GHOST!! Deader than dead. So... wtf is up with the inconsistency??? And if he's truly struggling with this, why didn't JRW show him talking to V, who was lucky and blessed as well. Would have made his thought process and actions regarding this more realistic IMO.
Ok, this may not have been a typical hearts and romance story, but it was still a love story. Many people were disappointed with how things were left for Trez. I was too. However, this book is titled The Shadows. Plural. Meaning this book wasn't just about Trez. iAm had to get some shine as well and I'm very happy with how things turned out for him. So Trez didn't get his HEA (yet) but he's got his family and a newfound appreciation for those who support and love him. Maybe we'll see more from him. Maybe not. I'm just grateful he didn't go the Tohr route and that he can be there finally for his brother.
