Interesting, and incredibly well-researched explanation for why political dynasties exist even in democratic states--the rise of biblical literalism, environmental entitlement (if you truly believe the world is going to end in x number of years there's not exactly motivation to recycle), the squandering of natural resources and the wars we go to when we finally deplete them, and, of course, unequal distribution of wealth all contribute and combine to create even more reasons for America's current stagnancy. I really wanted to love this book--it's written by a Republican!--a Nixonite Republican!!--who wallops both the W., and H.W Bush administrations!!!--but at times the book is so fact-saturated it grows ponderous and confusing. Might be the best book on the topic, but it isn't the best read.
