Loved loved loved this book! I adore Wrath so much. Okay, my review.
How did the smell of lessers change so much in this series? They used to smell like baby powder, but in this book they started smelling like 'two-day old dead deer and spoiled milk' to quote Xcor. What happened? Did I miss something or is this another issue of inconsistency?
Wrath and Beth's wedding. I think that was ultimately my favourite scene in the book. Not sure if it was because of Lassiter (he is such an amazingly awesome character! I can't wait for his book), becase I was laughing hysterically (as usual when it comes to him and Rhage) at the idea of him in an Elvis costume to officiate the wedding. Or when Lassiter described to Wrath what Beth looked like coming down the aisle. Or when Rhage was crying ('What. This is beautiful, 'kay? Fuck all y'all.'). Or the big grin on Wrath's face when he thinks of how in love he and Beth are and how happy she makes him. This 6 foot 9 male is such a sweetheart!! Or how Lassiter kept screwing up the order of the vows, even skipping parts of the ceremony altogether. This scene was incredible'
I also loved the scene when Beth comes home to tell Wrath (view spoiler) The pride in that male. His happiness was real. I felt it coming through the pages of the book. His joy as he shared the news with his brothers was indescribable. He went from 'no' and 'never' to (view spoiler)
I felt so proud of Wrath for finally being comfortable in his own skin. Owning his blindness was a giant leap in the right direction. I don't think there's ever been a time when I didn't respect this character, but I can say that this book made me respect him even more.
We do get some side stories from Trez/Selena (good setup btw for the next book. Going in I don't predict good things for Selena based on what I read here), Xcor/Layla (enough already! I just want Xcor, no Layla), and Assail/Sola (I'm sorry she had to go through what she did, but I don't like her for my buddy Assail, who seems to be developing an addiction to the 'snow', so I'll pass on her like I'll pass on Layla). Please give me better female leads for Xcor and Assail. The females they've been paired with are NOT worthy!! Oh, I almost forgot my dude iAm. He was an amazing supporting character in this book. We get to learn a lot about him, such as (view spoiler) I am really inerested to read about both him and Trez in the next book. Life in the s'Hisbe sounds extreme and I want to know how that plot line will play out. But iAm is a man of quiet strength and I think I'm going to be surprised with what else I learn about him. I just love how loyal he is to the Brotherhood, Rehvenge, Xhex, and the shellans. He was great with Beth for sure.
Okay, so on to reading about the Shadows. Cheers!
