This was a cute little book. If I think too much about it then I might get a little irritated at how selfish (and mean) Lou's family act, or even how selfish Will seemed deep inside from the start of the prologue right up until the end of the novel. Instead, I will say that upon finishing I had a few tears in my eyes over the kindness and love that Will showed at the end. At the way in which he somehow managed to see and know just what Lou needed deep inside even though she had no idea at all. I think his kindness and his love shone a little more considering how grumpy and - dare I say it - unlikable he actually seemed. I liked Lou a lot. I like how she persevered in so many ways and how she saw the good in things as often as she could. She seemed like sunshine and contagious laughter, but she held herself back in so many ways. I most appreciated how the two characters grew together over a short period of time and how they each willed the other to live in their own ways. I think with these things in mind I wouldn't call Me Before You a love story, or a sad story, but more of a coming of age tale that helped Lou realize her full potential. Though contemporary novels aren't really my thing, I am glad that I read this one and definitely recommend giving it a go.
