Gosho Aoyama shows us a little more about the past of many characters in this volume. We pick up with one of Jimmy Kudo's old cases in New York before he transformed into child. The story also foreshadows a new character and reveals more of Rachel and Jimmy's relationship, especially Rachel's feelings toward Jimmy. There's a mystery at a supposedly haunted house before the story shifts to Mitch, a member of the Junior Detective League, who goes missing. Finally, this volume ends with the start of a new case on a deserted island.
A consistently good series, this volume stands out because of what we learn about Rachel and Jimmy, who share some cute moments, and about Anita and Mitch.
