John Matthew aka Darius is such a sweetheart. I'm ecstatic that he got his own book (kinda).
But for a book that seemed to be about closure? I was still left searching for it. Here's why: the fact that JM is Darius incarnate wasn't resolved. There were so many hints to it finally imploding and then... Nothing! WTH is that about??? The plot line regarding Murhder was pretty irrelevant to me. I know it's a setup for him to return to the Brotherhood, but it didn't peak my interest in him. What a waste. But really I'm just pissed that the Darius flashbacks are all over the place (in order to establish the connection with Xhex. I get that) but... I need this plot to just be over. I want the characters to figure it out and please let's move on. And the ending, although a great HEA, seemed rushed for me. I guess this isn't a surprise considering the many inconsistencies with this story.
Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The fact that John has made peace with his past and is willing and able to embrace his future is simply wonderful. This was a man who felt displaced his entire life. By the end of the book, he becomes a man comfortable in his own skin and secure within himself. I think his character speaks so strongly to me despite the fact that he's a mute. Hes extremely loyal, considerate and hella strong. I adore this dude. I'm excited to see the fighting scenes involving him with Xhex by his side.
I didn't predict Lash's story going the way it did. I thought that due to his 'transformation', he would continue to be a worthy opponent in the war against the lessers. Boy was I wrong lol. Dude got what he deserved though. He was a freakin lunatic!!
The storyline involving Quhinn and Blaylock was heartbreaking. We can see how much Q loves Blay but just won't allow himself to do one more thing that isn't normal. I wanted to shake the crap out of him. He's worried what the glymera will think when they want nothing to do with him??? What are you thinking dude?? Q is cutting off his nose to spite his face, as my mother would say. His circle aka the Brotherhood would accept and embrace him no matter what. He even acknowledged that! Ah well, Blay is with Saxton now. I know it won't last but at least he is getting a little happiness now because this poor man was made miserable by Q's thoughtless actions.
Well, on to the next book. Cheers!
