Second Nature was interesting, but the writing style grated on me after a while. It seemed like Michael Pollan (whose writing I generally like) felt the need to use extraordinarily bombastic language in order to render unto a generally accessible topic a certain degree of pretension. Or, he over-philosophized about a simple topic.

I much prefer the book I'm reading now -- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver.
