The book doesn't present anything new, but Eckharts ability to synthesize information from various cultures and periods makes this book a flexible foundation towards topics such as the bible, Zen, mindfulness and yoga.

I did not appreciate the way Eckhart directly talks about various sicknesses of the mind. I prefer Alan Watts approach that there is nothing every fundamentally wrong with you as an individual. I also believe that Eckhart doesn't realize how this book can influence individuals to possibly lose their minds.

Therefore, the reader may want to read and understand the book, but not to take it too highly in it's esteem: "Once you cross the shore, leave the boat behind."
