really liked it

This is an excellent fictionalized look at a working dog trapped in a nearly impossible situation. As dogs do have reasoning skills, Rose's abilities don't smack of too much "Lassie-isms", however, the climax of the story is pure fantasy. This doesn't detract from the book unless you let it.

Jon Katz seems to have done an amazing job getting into Rose's head, as well as giving us glimpses of her fellow farm animals. Sam, Rose's farmer, is suffering from the loss of his recently-married wife, and Rose is affected by her loss, as well.

A very good book if you enjoy animal stories.
