Palestinian and Israeli relations are complex, to say the least, but this book provides a very readable and accessible overview dated from 1917. The major focus of the book, and its real strength, is the story of the friendship between Ruth Dayan, wife of an Israeli general, and Raymonda Tawil, mother-in-law of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. Both these women are inspirational for their strength of character, their role in promoting women's rights and their humanitarian work. Important reading.
