it was amazing
bookshelves: mystery

A labyrinthine exploration of the intricacies of familial relationships and the impact of long held secrets. Kate Shugak is dealing with the fallout of Old Sam Dementieff's death, not least because he has left most of his possessions to her and during the distribution of the remainder she discovers a mystery that may shake the very foundation of life in the Park. Kate's lover Jim Chopin has his own family issues to deal with and travels to California and discovers that he has his own dark family secrets to pursue, leaving Mutt the wolf as Kate's only backup. A fascinating history of some of the events that shaped Alaska and the extensive Shugak clan with intriguing plot twists that give more insight into the background that forms Kate and Jim into the forces of nature that they both are.
